Women's Real Estate Group Awards Scholarships

Three grateful MTSU students in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business recently received a financial boost to their educational aspirations from the Women in Commercial Real Estate Nashville chapter.

The Women in Commercial Real Estate Nashville chapter visited the MTSU campus in October to award scholarships to three female students in the real estate program within the Jones College of Business. Distinguished Alumni Award
Col. Jeffery Bonner, Class of 1982, Bachelor’s in Business Administration 
Bonner’s career and service to both the military and the MTSU ROTC program are impressive. Attending MTSU on a full Army ROTC scholarship, he was the cadet commander and Distinguished Military Graduate as a senior, recipient of the Lt. George W. Burkheart Scholarship and received the prestigious George C. Marshall Award.
He earned numerous awards — including the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star — in a distinguished military career in active duty and reserve capacities. He finished his tenure rated as the best commander within each two-star commander’s span of responsibility. In 1998, he returned to MTSU as an assistant professor of military science, joining a core group of fellow alumni to rebuild the ROTC program. They succeeded in elevating the program to No. 1 in the nation.
Now a corporation owner, Bonner works with major hydrocarbon organizations to increase the effectiveness of their global corporate social responsibility programs in Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Syria and Kurdistan.

Service to the University
Richard Key, Class of 1962, Business 
Key has devoted himself to serving MTSU in various capacities through the years. After retiring from Aladdin Industries, he has continued to serve the university in multiple volunteer capacities. He has served as president of the MTSU Alumni Association and serves on the Past Presidents Council.
A member of the Golden Raiders Society, Key has been a Blue Raider Athletic Association member since 1984 and is a member of both the 1911 and Walnut Grove giving societies. He also has been a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business.
In 2014, Key established the Charlene Key and Jan Key Endowed Fund for Excellence, named after his late wife and their daughter, in the Jones College. His love and passion for MTSU is exemplified by his long MTSU career, his financial commitment to the future of the university and his continued involvement and input in university boards and organizations.

Business Competition a Learning Experience

MTSU’s second Strategic Management Case Competition saw 205 students participating for eight weeks for $1,800 in prize money and an eye-catching entry for their resumes. Only 35 students (nine class-champion teams) made it to the Dec. 5 final round, where Goodwill judged them on the quality of their research, recommendations, and presentations. Economist Kotlikoff to Give Nov. 5 MTSU Lecture on ‘Broke’ U.S.

A Boston University economist will give a free public lecture Thursday, Nov. 5, at MTSU that focuses on the realities of the nation’s severe debt load. Economics professor Laurence Kotlikoff will give a talk entitled, “What None of the Candidates Will Tell You … Our Country is Broke!” The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the State Farm Lecture Hall located in Room S102 of the Business and Aerospace Building. BERC: Goodwill Has $38M Impact in Rutherford

Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee annually generates wages and salaries of more than $14 million and business revenues of about $24 million in Rutherford County while placing hundreds of people into jobs, according to a report from the Business and Economic Research Center at MTSU. Real Estate Program Software

Dr. Philip Seagraves, head of the Jones College real estate program, secured a $1.1475 million gift-in-kind of software and licensing from Argus, which provides worldwide software services to commercial real estate developers. This product will be the only one of its type in the region and will revolutionize the Jones College Real Estate program.
